(1) What are you planning to use it for

          (a) Book lover to keep on reading articles?

 (b) Web Surfer to scroll down the web frequently.

 (c)Game lover to do gaming

(d)Workaholic -over whelmed with office work.

(e)just keep in touch with friends and family

over the Zoom ,What's app, email & social media

If you are planning to use it for reading eBooks, e Magazines or news only -then you might consider Amazon kindle. When you buy an E book of Amazon  it will appear on your Internet connected kindle automatically. The battery lasts for several days  thanks to the e link screen. The e link screen is more comfortable to your eyes. Furthermore, it features Audiobook  so you can listen to your favourite celebrities reading out your favorite books for you. Certainly you can do your reading on a multifunction tablet like the Apple i pad , but the kindle  gives you a much better experience.

If you are a casual web surfer where you want to surf the web read news, and to get in touch with family and friends over the social media, play few casual games and take few photos listen to your music collection or watch some videos, then most tablets are more than adequate.

If you are planning to use it for casual gaming, the good news is most of the tablets are pretty good. Just make sure the games you want to play are available on the tablet you choose and your tablet is powerful enough to provide you a good gameplay experience. Nvidia and Google used to make special gaming tablets( Nvidia shield & Google Nexus 9). with a special Nvidia mobile graphic processor to achieve the ultimate gaming experience. Recent i Pad or a Samsung Galaxy tab is an reasonable alternative.

For serious workaholics -If you need to use certain applications, then you must check the availability of the applications on the tablet of your choice. If you really need to run Windows based applications, then you might want to consider getting a Microsoft Surface Pro tablet or similar with a key board. The Surface Pro is basically a full-blown Windows PC stuffed into a tablet form package. If you want the productivity of a laptop and the convenience of a tablet, then you should consider a hybrid computer from Microsoft, Lenovo and others. For cheaper alternatives, the Lenovo yoga and Microsoft surface Pro8 are very good alternatives. For those who want something more business oriented and would prefer a solid performer like the Think pads. For those who would like to have the most cutting edge and if money is no objection, then you might want to take a look at the cutting edge  Lenovo Think pad X1 Fold It comes with a foldable screen, yes a foldable screen, so you get a big screen yet very compact when closed.

If you are planning to do video calls or conference calls with services such as Skype, Zoom, Google Duo, Facetime, Houseparty etc... most tablets mentioned here (except the Kindle eReader above) will do fine. If you want to use Facetime, you will need to have an Apple device such as the Apple iPad

If you are planning to use your tablet to take some quality snaps here and there and use it as your digital photo album, then you will need a tablet with a decent camera, a good quality screen and some extra storage space. We would recommend the Apple iPad. There are different versions of the iPad such as the iPad Mini, iPad Air and iPad Pro, but the standard iPad is usually the best option for most people. As for the amount of storage space, there are two choices: 64GB or 256GB. It is important to note that the storage space on the iPads are not expandable, so you can't add any more storage space once it runs out. So make sure you consider this before you buy. The starting model with 64GB is ample for many, but if you would like a bit more space, go for the 256GB version.

Certainly there are many tablets out there that come with expandable storage such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 and A8 as mentioned above and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S. So that you can add extra storage by installing a microSD card.

To give you an idea of the number of photos you can store given the storage size of the tablet, we have done some estimates. Certainly it depends on many factors such as picture size, quality, format and what else is stored on the tablet, but here are some rough estimates:

8GB                 1500 quality photos

16GB               4000 quality photos

32GB               9500 quality photos

64GB               20000 quality photos

128GB             42000 quality photos

256GB             86000 quality photos

1TB                   344000 quality photos

For movie lovers

If you are planning to use it as your movie station, then a wide screen tablet with a 16:10 or 16:9 screen will give you a better viewing experience, otherwise you can get the annoying letter box effect (top and bottom black border) or cropped picture (with sides missing). Check out the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 and the Amazon Fire

For those who do creative drawings Tablet with stylus pen would do the job.The new generation of iPads are compatible with the Apple Pencil. The special stylus (now at its second generation) makes it easier to do artistic work and to touch up photos as it can sense the pressure you assert on the tablet.

HD, Ultra HD or Retina screen?

The high-resolution screen has many advantages:

  • It makes the visual experience more real-life than digitally pixelated (blocky).

  • It brings out the detail of nice photos, so photos look really sharp.

  • It makes texts and graphics more appealing to the eye.

  • It makes good HD movies viewing experience.

Many of the high-end tablets such as the Apple iPads and the Samsung Galaxy Tablet come with the high-resolution screen. Many of the mainstream tablets now also come with an HD or high-resolution screen, only the low-end ones don’t. We would recommend avoiding the low-end tablets if possible as you likely need to replace it with a better one soon.

Should I choose a bigger or smaller screen?

if you are not planning to travel frequently recommends buy a one with larger screen. The bigger screen makes it a nicer experience, whereas the smaller screen (e.g. 7-8 inch) makes it easier and lighter to carry around.

How long before I need to charge it?

As for battery performance, most tablets will give you around 8-10 hours of use. So you can use it all day and get it charged up overnight. Certainly how long the battery can last depends on what you use it for and the age of the tablet. If you really need to use it intensively for long hours with no access to a power source then you might want to consider getting a portable battery pack such as the Anker Power Banks.
